The resulting network of agreements and negotiations is fragmented, inconsistent and unequal in terms of content and reporting. It is not clear whether governments really intend to implement all these agreements, especially when rich country models are referred to poorer Asian countries where the economic, social and political consequences will be severe. With APEC, we promote policies that facilitate digital commerce and promote a free and open internet. The U.S. digital economy is estimated to account for 6.9% of GDP, with an annual GDP recovery potential of $2.2 trillion by 2025. We are working at APEC to support U.S. businesses and innovators in the digital economy: at the closing meeting of the APEC host year in Chile, the United States will applaud Chilean leaders in 2019.
